The Foundation of Connection

I have come to realise that while I have worked tirelessly to build a structure of geometry and wood, the true architecture of the ePod is built on relationships. It is the connection between people that makes the effort worthwhile. Often, we create because we are longing for that connection, and today I wish to recognise those who met me in that space, placing their contributions on the permanent record of this project.

To my parents:

You are the bedrock. Your financial support gave me the freedom to move, but it was your unwavering belief in who I am that gave me the courage to dive this deep. You provided the foundation upon which everything else stands.

Thank you.

But there are three friends who walked the physical path of the build with me, three distinct energies that helped pull the ePod from the ether into reality.

Isaac Jones: The Genesis🌱

I owe a debt of gratitude to Isaac. He provided not just the physical ground for the ePod to be born, but the very seed of its existence. It was in his yard, amidst the trellis work and the sawdust, that the idea took root. He mentioned wanting to build a meditation space for his mother, and that spark instantly collided with my study of geometry.

That conversation birthed the vision of the Rhombic Triacontahedron.

When I came to him with drawings of this strange, diamond-faced sphere, he didn’t turn away. He engaged. He gave me the tools, he gave me a corner of his yard, and he gave me the freedom to work.

Isaac possesses a rare quality: he knows how to hold space without crowding it. He helped me troubleshoot the impossible task of making complex geometry weathertight, but he also knew when to step back. We shared a flow, a mutual understanding of systems and sound, and in the moments where I needed it most, he offered a quiet, steady emotional support.

He made the ePod physically possible.

Alan Hood: The Anchor 🪣

Then there is Alan. If Isaac was the spark, Alan was the anvil against which the ideas were tested.

He is a true friend who understood that his role was to wrestle with my concepts. He didn't just nod along; he challenged them, pouring cold water on them not to extinguish the fire, but to temper the steel. He forced me to explain myself, to refine the complex into the practical.

Alan was there in the background, a constant presence. When I was living in the van, battling frustrations with the build and life’s logistics, Alan was the one pulling me out of the river, sometimes literally, often metaphorically.

He dragged me on adventures through the Geraldine Forest to break my fixation, and he fed me.

Those weekly curries, the hot meals, the simple act of sitting down to drink tea, these were the things that sustained the builder, so the builder could sustain the project.

He was the grounding force when the rest of my life felt suspended in the air.

Jo Thompson: The Heart💛

And finally, I must acknowledge Jo.

Jo brought something to the ePod that neither Isaac, Alan, nor I could have generated alone.

She brought a high-octane enthusiasm that breathed life into the wood and paint.

She didn’t just observe the project; she stepped inside it and made it her own.

She is a digital designer by trade, and she was instrumental in the aesthetic reality of the structure, helping to create the stencil for the exterior. But she was also there in the dust and the fumes, painting the panels alongside me, working with her hands, actively participating in the creation.

Jo nourished me, quite literally, with banana bread and care, providing warmth when the yard felt cold. But more than that, she championed the potential of what we were doing.

She listened to my philosophies on universal well-being and reflected them back with a belief that was embodied and real.

She saw the beauty in the ePod before it was finished, and her love for the project reassured me that we were making something profound.

Jo, you helped make the love within this structure come true. Your energy is painted into its very skin.

♾️ Always a START ♾️

To Isaac, Alan, and Jo: You engaged with my ideas when they were fragile.

You applied effort to understand me. You helped this dream survive its embryonic stage to become what it is today.

Thank you.

You are etched into the story of the ePod forever.
